Averda is a multinational waste management provider and, as such, we are awarded contracts around the world. Averda has just been given a three-year contract to service Qatar’s flagship waterfront development, The Pearl-Qatar.
Averda will immediately work to implement a comprehensive waste management structure to deal with the various types of refuse at The Pearl-Qatar. The scope of the contract includes general waste and recyclables, which will be collected from all the commercial and residential tenants on the island.
The Pearl-Qatar is a manmade island that spans four square kilometers. It has 32km of seafront and is located off the coast of Doha’s West Bay. The Pearl-Qatar can accommodate 50 000 full-time residents, as well as numerous world-class restaurants, shopping malls, meeting halls and entertainment facilities.
Averda will make use of a custom-built underground airflow pipe network as part of its commitment to the development, its residents and the environment. This pipe network consists of multiple inlets located around the island that can transport lightweight waste materials, such as paper and plastic bags. This world-class system will enable the instant collection of waste with reduced carbon emissions.
“The technologies used at The Pearl-Qatar will help deliver incredible value, both in terms of efficiencies for our customer and cutting-edge collection capabilities that benefit all stakeholders – including communities and the island’s surroundings,” says Averda’s country manager for Qatar, Niamh Bray.
“Wherever we operate, we work hard to engage communities in the spirit of environmental responsibility and I am delighted that in Qatar, we now have the opportunity to make a lasting difference to how communities think and feel about their environment. The fact that we can do so, whilst also achieving cuts in carbon emissions of up to 90%, indicates that we can look forward to a very clean and healthy future at The Pearl-Qatar,” she concludes.
